4/21/10April News
Hello Friends,
Apologies for the lateness of our April news, it's been a busy month in the studio finishing up our album. The big news is it is DONE, and we are now in the mixing phase. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Jim Nunally, one of the finest bluegrass producers California has to offer. For those who aren't familiar with Jim, he is the guitarist/vocalist for John Reischman and the Jaybirds, as well as the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience among others. He has an impressive resume for production and engineering and we encourage anybody shopping for a producer to consider Jim, as he is at the top of the heap.![]()
While you will have to wait until June to get one of our CDs in hand, if you just can't wait to hear our new original material, you can always come to a show! We will be playing April 29th at the Hotel Utah (map) a great venue in San Francisco just off I80 on 4th street. This will be an euphonic night of music, perfect for the San Franciscan fun-seeker and music-afficiando alike. Check out the poster for more info.
For those of you who prefer a more low-key musical experience (combined with some sea-breeze and excellent brunch), we encourage you to come see us at the Sand Dollar (map) on Sunday May, 2nd. This is the perfect place for a Sunday afternoon excursion: a beautiful 45 minute drive north of the bay area to Stinson Beach, an idyllic relaxed seaside town sure to chase away any city-borne-blues you may have. Add a walk on the beach, brunch and three hours of great bluegrass music and we guarantee you'll come home grinning. The music starts at noon, so don't party TOO hard on Saturday!
We would like to give a heartfelt thanks to our friends at the CBA for hiring us for the Hobbs Grove Festival this year. We are looking forward to sharing our music with the fine folks in the south-central valley who attend. We also want to thank all our friends and fans here in the bay area for supporting us by coming to our shows. You're the reason we're still doing this and are working so hard to finish our album up for this summer. Thanks for making it all possible!
Stay tuned for information on CD-release dates and venues.
Yours,

March News
Howdy Friends,
Thanks to everyone who came out to support us this past month, whether at a show or just checking out our new website. We've spent a lot of time rehearsing and in the studio chipping away at our upcoming CD, and it was great to see your smiling faces at our February gigs. Our recent San Francisco Bluegrass and Old-Time Festival show at The Freight and Salvage was really well attended and a lot of fun. Thanks to all of you- and the SFBOT and Freight staff- for making that night great! If you'd like to see some photos from that event you can click here.
We've got a few shows this month around the bay that we hope you can make. Coming up on 3/13 is the annual Sonoma County Bluegrass and Folk Festival, held at the Sebastopol Community Center. We'll be kicking off the festival at 1pm, but this is an all-day event featuring many great bands, so check out their website for more details. After that, we're back at Amnesia on 3/29 in San Francisco for the regular Bluegrass Monday music series. Amnesia is always a fun show for us, though we can't seem to remember why... Rounding out the month we're back in Fairfax at the Iron Springs Brewery, so keep that one in mind- bluegrass and beer on a Wednesday night... it's just plain science.
We hope to see you out soon! We've got our last three studio days coming up in the next week, so very soon we will have some more detailed information about our upcoming CD release. Thanks again for all your encouragement and support, we couldn't do it without you!
Yours,

February News
Thanks to everyone who came out to support us this past month, whether at a show or just checking out our new website. We've spent a lot of time rehearsing and in the studio chipping away at our upcoming CD, and it was great to see your smiling faces at our January gigs. Our recent show at The Sleeping Lady in Fairfax was our first show in Marin for quite a while, and it felt great to try out a bunch of our new material from the new album. We'll be back in Fairfax at the end of March at the Iron Springs Brewery, so keep that one in mind- bluegrass and beer on a Wednesday night... it's just plain science.
This weekend marks the start of the 11th annual San Francisco Bluegrass and Old-Time Festival, and there are all sorts of great events happening around The Bay. As part of this week-long festival, we will be performing Friday February 19 at The Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse, along with other area bands The Bucky Walters and Montana Slim. In case you're not aware, The Freight moved from its historic location a few months back and the new venue is spectacular. Come check it out, we promise to put on a great show for you!
To whet your appetite for the upcoming Freight show, we'll be rolling out some new material during a live performance on KPFA 94.1 fm this Sunday 2/14 at 3pm, during Ray Edlund's "Pig in a Pen" show. The Nashville Bluegrass Band will also be performing, so make sure to stay tuned. For those of you outside of the bay there is also a webcast!
We hope to see you out soon! Thanks again for all your encouragement and support, we couldn't do it without you!

1-22-10January News
Hello friends,
We hope you've all had a great start to 2010, aka "The Future". We've got a bunch of great events rounding out January and into infinity, so hoping to see you out soon. First off, welcome to our NEW website, which has a lot of great info, new features, and style-o-plenty. Hope you like it, and find it useful for keeping an eye on us... we misbehave without supervision.
We've crossed the halfway point on our new album, and are really pleased with the progress so far. It's been great collaborating with Jim Nunally at his Crockett, CA studio and we couldn't be happier with the quality of the new tracks. We are still on target for a Spring release, and will keep you posted on the CD release party as that develops. In the meantime, we'll be performing some new material from the upcoming album at two shows this weekend- we'll be on both sides of the bay, see below for details.
It's still a few weeks away, but the San Francisco Bluegrass & Old Time Festival is fast approaching. As part of that week-long festival, we will be appearing at the Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, Friday February 19. We'll send out an official rallying cry for that event, but keep it on your radar for now- the new Freight is a fantastic venue, and we have a great show planned for you.
Thanks for your continued support, and looking forward to seeing you soon!
Yours, 49 Special
